Thanks for the helpful tips everyone. I think we've found some options for on the road and ahead of time here. I have unavoidable work travel and my DH planned a trip to see cherished family members without thinking about Halloween. I'm sure we'll all survive even if we are the *worst* parents ever.

Check out the reston zoo. I think I saw an ad that said they had trick or treating on Nov 1 as well.

Its mean of you to plan your travel so your kid will miss Halloween. If you care so much, change your plans. If you don't, accept that you are okay with your child be disappointed about this.

You really didn't have to introduce politics here, but since you did, stop flaunting your racist attitudes. Yes, all lives matter. That's the point of the Black Lives Matter campaign. While all lives have mattered, in the past, it's been very clear that politicaly and practically, the system has always valued white lives more. People turn a blind eye to violence against blacks, crimes against blacks, and system injustices against blacks. They believe that young black men are by default hoodlums and not worth saving. When crimes happen against whites, people are up in arms to change the system, to improve situations to avoid the same happening in the future. When crimes happen against blacks, they deride the blacks for being criminals, hoodlums and don't make an effort to change the system.

The point of the campaign is that Black Lives Matter as much as White Lives. Since that has not been the practice, it needs to be said. When you say All Lives Matter, you are saying that the systemic injustices in our legal, criminal and societal systems all need to remain status quo and we do not need to improve the system to ensure that equality that you think you are proposing. Get your head out of the sand, ostrich.

Many of the malls or shopping centers (like Fairfax Corner, as an example, but I'm not sure if they do, specifically) have trick or treating at the shops prior to Halloween. Where are you located OP?

Another vote for finding some trick or treating the weekend before - not sure where you are but Mill Creek Parish in Derwood has a trunk or treat event on the 25th.

Are you going to tell her before you go? It might be easier to wrap her head around if she has some notice about it.

When I was a kid I went out trick or treating on 11/1. We had off school because we went to I went to
Catholic school. All of the older people were thrilled to hand out their leftover candy. They would empty their bowls into out bags.
