It's easier for them to do crafts and eat (when we're not all eating at the big table). They can get in and out of the chairs easier. It makes a good kids table when we have a larger crowd over for a meal.

We have the KidKraft farmhouse table - it comes with 4 chairs for $110 on Amazon. The wood is soft, so we do have some scratches/dents on the top. But it's very sturdy - my overweight parents have sat in the chairs without issue. The top wipes off easily. We also have an Ikea table and I agree, they're super cheap, not sturdy, and doesn't clean up as well. I would choose the KidKraft table over it in a heartbeat.
