We took our kids of similar ages on vacation this summer. There were two other kids there. I thought they'd play and have fun. They fought and fought. Sleeping arrangements were a nightmare. Sharing was a nightmare. Deciding what activities to do was a nightmare.

I have 4. Infant twins and 2 older kids. I always have the older kids bring a friend when possible. It's definitely easier to have them occupied with someone they get along with.
