My parents were foreigners so I'm American but have understand an immigrant culture. My sister and most of my cousins married foreigners (not all from our parents' country but from ones with a related culture). It's worked out because, generally, the cultures are related and the courtships have been long. A few are now ending after decades of marriage and in every case it's the same thing: the husbands cheated and, yes, they were from areas of the world where it's much more acceptable but it wasn't acceptable to my degreed female cousins who made years of sacrifices for their husbands' careers. I do have a friend who ended up in a custody battle with a spouse who had ties to another country and the spouse was legally able to take the kid there which has effectively meant he doesn't see his kid. That would be a concern of mine.

My DH is from Texas. Does that count?

Bias exists in many ways and some of it is understandable.

Most Indians parents who are Hindus or Christians prefer that their kids marry within the faith but they will accept an interfaith marriage but when it comes to marrying a Muslim, they would be opposed to it. This would especially be the case if it is a Hindu or Christian woman who is wanting to marry a Muslim.

The three I know have all divorced and 2 out of three place significant fault on the cultural difference.

Like any marriage, I think you need to have a mutual understanding on what to expect. I like this article:

My DH is foreign, and it has been great. We have been married for 9 years. His home country is a chauvanistic one, but that is not reflected in his behavior. SIL and MIL are intelligent and liberated and were good female role models. I would pay particular attention to his family, as any problems may be a source of a lot of conflict.

This is what I find intolerable about some foreigners who just got on a plane and flew over here to the U.S. They can become quite angry when their wants and needs are not met based on their unrealistic expectations. I also find that some foreigners are deeply rooted in more of a socialist political mindset. In other words, they think everything in the U.S. is free. And they have no concept of how long it took some Americans to achieve a standard of living. Or they call American problems "first world problems." Well, this is a first world country.

Most male foreigners are uncircumcised and are WAY WAY better in bed than Americans.
I find Americans less sensitive in that area. I also find them rather prudish (grossed out by sex on period). I also like the sensation from an uncircumcised penis much more.
I married an uncircumcised foreigner and love it.

I will NEVER marry again.

It's great. My kids speak three languages, we have a mix of foods, music, literature, and culture in the house. We travel. Amazing.

I grew up moving all over the world, and I'm comfortable with people of other cultures. My ex was American and my current is foreign. It's both easier and more difficult. We've had some huge misunderstandings along the way that came from basic cultural differences, and at the same time I find the differences interesting. I do excuse him more for his quirks, which in a fellow American would just be irritating and gauche.

I tried it and it didn't work for me. This person was only comfortable in a small part of one city in the U.S., where there were a LOT of other immigrants from the same region, and did NOT want to live anywhere else. My family, nth-generation american, is more accustomed to moving around, living in different areas. Indeed, after several years, I wanted to move away from that city, and this person absolutely would NOT. and that was it - end of relationship.

I did, no problems. Of course, "foreign" in our case is an English-speaking country very similar to the US. Only change I'd make is living there instead of here.

How's the sex? That's key.
