Michigan is very competitive to get into from out of state.

OP - take a look at University of Vermont. It's a beautiful town and I believe it is a little less competitive for admissions.

Yes, the other state schools all have easier admissions (usually much easier). Amongst themselves, they vary as to their competitiveness, but they are all easier to get into than Madison. And, there are always a number of students who start at one of those schools and later transfer to Madison.

Montana is in a great town - missoula is really cool and has amazing access to top outdoors stuff.

IU Bloomington, definitely. Cool school, great town. U of Minnesota is a really nice school too. I have friends and family that went to both (and also to UW).

Her numbers are below the average, especially for OOS, but, UW admissions can be a bit quirky sometimes, and they do love getting students from the East Coast, so you just never know. Might as well give it a try right?

UW Madison is 40% OOS students. Many students from the East Coast, California, MN, Chicago area, and international.

Oh, c'mon. That's a community college on stilts, not a world class university.

It is access to 4 other liberal arts colleges, and a vast range of majors and programs. Like Wisconsin , many fantastic student run clubs and organizations.

Op it might matter what college within the university she applies to - as to how competitive. Something to research.
