This is no longer true. There is a process, and it is used. Sounds like it's being used right now, but it does generally take a school year.

OP from the other thread here. Columbus Day sounds like a great idea -- not just for gathering data but for demonstrating parent concern.

Anyone who goes should write up their observations in whatever form and email them to the principal.

It's been a few years, but I was the only parent who got my daughter transferred to a new teacher because I sent specific complaints and impacts that the teacher had failed to redress.

I am pretty sure that at least a few parents are making their voices be heard. Not sure if they are being specific.

This is why it is important that parents are as specific as possible emailing those who supervise teachers. The other OP says that there isn't much in Edline. What precisely does that mean? Not many grades? Not many handouts posted? No announcements of upcoming assessments? And in comparison to what --OP's subjective expectations or the other grade level social studies teacher? How is what is not posted on Edline impacting OP's DD as a result? Is she unaware of her overall grade in the class or missing assignments? Did she forget there was a test? Are there handouts that she has lost and needs a new copy to do her homework?
All of these would be 100% legitimate complaints that would make OP's very vague concerns carry more weight.

They won't do that because then everyone will want out if the teacher is as bad as OP says.

Mediocre teachers, yes. Bad teachers, not any more. Not if parents and principals are doing their due diligence. I've seen the PAR system remove weak, but well-meaning teachers as well as those who refused to change.
