I posted a few weeks ago about my 6 month old who was waking up like yours to feed 4-5 times per night. One poster on that thread said that it is important to distinguish between weaning and sleep training. Ferber suggests a 2 step approach is often good. First getting the baby weaned and then later deal with the sleep associations. So we did the Ferber schedule- basically soothing him, rocking him etc. so that he would go half hour more each night without the bottle and gradually decreasing the milk in the bottle by watering it down over time. Now we're down to almost no bottle sucking and no milk in just 10 days and it is much better. Once we aren't using the bottle then we will do CIO for the last part of the sleep training but I think it should be much easier now that he is weaned.

thank you all for your responses. They have been helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to respond even though this is such a commonly asked question on this site.

you can pay a sleep trainer and they'll do the training (and CIO) for you, and hand hold you through the process according to your degree of angst and discomfort.

OP, read the Jay Gordon method article even though your kid is too young for it. may give you insight.
