Best thing for crickets and other house pests is a cat or two. Ours would enjoy playing with the crickets for a bit before dispatching them.

Sticky traps. Works like a charm. It’s just a flat sticky piece of paper. Open the vent and position it just inside. Don’t forget to remove it later.

Poor you OP! I was woken up at 2 am the other day by a loud cricket. I could not see it but noticed the noise was coming from a sink that we don’t use much so I ran water down it and it stopped.

I like your DH’s air dryer idea - I would do that again. Could you try putting central heating on for a few hours in early morning when it is colder outside to see if that helps?

I had a cricket in the wall and had to wait for it to die which it finally did a month later. I have no idea what it ate or drank to live so long!

I would not spray any poison into the vents, because the air is being circulated around the house through the vents.

We use sticky pads. When they hop onto it, they get stuck! and eventually they die. I would put that at the vent's entrance. Poke some holes in it so the air can still move through it. Or you can put them inside the vents. If not, use large pieces of tape and make it double sided, place them in the vent or at the entrance of the opening.

Ah... noisy crickets! They were everywhere where I grew up. Once, when I was a kid, I was so annoyed by a cricket that wouldn't shut up I clumsily slammed my hand on the table and the pencil I was trying to use for my homework pierced my hand. I still have the "lead" mark.
