These are what I call ‘catalog clothes’.

My 77 year old aunt, who by the way always looks fabulous, buys things from SS. She bought me a bathrobe from there, which I think she thought would be safe for someone younger. It wasn't.

That's an odd dynamic with your mother. Maybe figure out a shop you like and ask for a giftcard for that site if she is so fixated on being involved in dressing you.

I have the wrap top from SS as it is comfy and covers my bustline better than most wrap tops. I think the other items skew older but it's all how you wear it.

Lol- I have 3 items from this co- all from my mom! One is a cute down vest I actually wear’ one is a fleece cardigan that I wear around the house and the 3rd is a sweater that could be cute but the fit is huge and I never wear it. Definitely not something I would ever buy for myself!

If your mom likes these companies, tell her to use them for herself. If I was a size 2 I'd run from these stores. They're perfect for me at 70 years old. Rule of thumb for me ..... If I think I can wear the clothing in 10-15 years don't buy. WAIT for 10 years. There's something else going on here. Get therapy and bring out some power.

There are some things in the catalog that look like they are for older women -- things I picture my 67 year old mother wearing. That said, I could easily put together a cute summer wardrobe from this website. I'm 40 y.o., 5'4" and 119 lbs. You would just have to choose selectively.

You need to get your heads out of your respective asses. Just because it's not your style doesn't mean it's not good style. The issue was with her mother trying to push her into something she wasn't comfortable with. Some young and
middle aged women prefer a softer look. And as for bringing Jjill into the equation....please! That stuffs so frumpy my grandmother is embarrassed by it. It looks like something I would wear to feed the chickens...if I had chickens...which I don't but that's beside the point. She needs to wear what makes her happy and what makes her feel good. I spent most of my life dressing for others and am finally free to dress as I please and it sure feels good.
PS some women are modest by nature and find that wearing loosely fitting clothing gives them much needed ventilation.

OP, I feel your pain with your mom. I'm 36, I'm in good physical shape and I've never dressed in things that are very short or tight. My mom classified any skirt above the knee or tank top as "slut clothes." She says it half-jokingly but I know she really feels that way. She's always tried to buy me long ankle length skirts and clothes that are drapery and boxy. I grew up wearing things that were at least a size too big. We're not Mormons, I've never been in trouble for anything, to give her any cause for concern but my whole life she's wanted me to dress like I'm Amish.

There are a few things that I would wear--a couple of the tops & dresses, maybe. Nothing I'm tempted to buy. (37, fit, 5'3")

It's clearly for the 55+ set who still want to feel young and artsy.

Y'all are mean! I got this catalogue in the mail today for the first time and thought what age threshold have I crossed to deserve this. It's going in the recycling bin immediately!

Those clothes are ridiculous, as is your mom.

However, I'm going to defend my beloved Talbots. Yes, they do have older more mature clothes but they also have good, even body conscious stuff. For a classic/preppy aesthetic they are great no matter the age.
