DH is huge on vacation planning. We do four or five 10-day trips a year, and every city we're headed to (usually abroad though occasionally US), he'll have all the transportation/lodging arranged, a custom Google Map created with everything interesting in the surrounding area, links to 10 hipster blogs for that city to see what events are going on when we're in town that we should check out, and so on.

Gets a little annoying TBH, because he plans *so much* stuff that we're out all day and then on to nightlife at night, and frankly I'd rather just curl up with a good book (on a beach, in a park, wherever) rather than feel like we need to run run run around and 'see everything'. But he has this goal of seeing every place that interests him before he turns 35, and so when he gets to travel he feels like we should turn up to 11, and then relax when we get home from the vacation.

Sometimes. Sometimes I do. I usually book the tickets and figure out where we will stay, but occasionally there's something he really wants to do and he will plan that. He recently took a work trip to British Colombia and loved it so much he's planning a trip for us to go there next summer. I have never been and was happy to sit back and relax.

I enjoy vacation planning so I handle it. DH might help me choose between two hotels if I ask him to. We like it this way though.

Nope. I plan the vacations and the holidays. It works just fine. He always has a good time.

I run our household so I do the planning, of course I listen to his input and his wants and likes. I enjoy it. I am far more detail oriented and organized.

I have a knack for finding the best rental homes and boutique hotels.

Always best location and gorgeous--so if DH voices an opinion of an area he wants to go I do the legwork on accomadatiins. He'll usually book the flights. He got peeved it felt like he was planning itinerary on last vacations so I was in charge of the most recent one.

Fwiw- I live to travel but I hate vacation planning and loathe packing.

I wish I had the money and time to have this problem. We both look at planes tickets online and lust about going somewhere someday! So I guess it's fifty-fifty!

DW here. I work full-time but I am 100% responsible for planning any/all trips, holidays, family visits, etc. The few times it's been left to him, he gets around to it a few days before the trip and we've got zero options, etc. It's just not his forte. It's clearly a chore for him. But he's so happy and grateful for all that I put into planning a nice trip for the two of us and/or my stepdaughter so I bask in his appreciation. If I try to solicit his opinion about things he will humor me but like a pp said, if I didn't mention a word about it, he'd be a happy man. Except maybe, maybe, the destination itself. MAYBE.

But having said that, we have a good overall division of labor so when I catch myself being annoyed and wishing he were more involved (and after awhile, it can become more like a chore), I remind myself that it's not like he doesn't do anything. He cooks more than I do and I'm sure he secretly wishes I wanted to do more but doesn't get on me for not stepping up. Plus he makes way, way more than I do so he pays for all the amazing trips I plan, so who am I to complain?

+1 Not a travel agent but I prefer making the arrangements. Sometimes he'll do the air tickets as he has a lot more experience with that.

I do most of the planning and prep work to get us there because I Am A Planner. But once we get there, he is ON his game. He lugs all the stuff to and from the beach without complaint, helps with shopping and meals and cleaning. He'll take charge of activities to give me a break or offer to sit in the condo/house during nap time so I can go to the beach ALONE. He will play and swim all day with the kids. Things like that. It works for us. We both come home exhausted, but feeling like we did our share.

Nope. He said he wanted to go away for Labor Day weekend and I told him it was on him to plan. He finally got around to calling the place he wanted to go to yesterday, and guess who is all booked for the holiday weekend? Maybe someday he will learn.

I guess we're the outlier. I (DH) do the planning. I do the travel arrangements whether car or plane, car rental, hotels, options for places to visit, etc. She handles most of the packing, supplies, shopping for anything we might need while traveling, making sure we have everything we need easily accessible (like packing carryons). While traveling, I handle the details of where we're going, what needs to be done to get us from point A to point B and she handles the kids and food. We both have our assigned tasks to keep the trip moving as smoothly as possible with two preschoolers, so that I can handle the travel details. Over the years, we've worked out who does what better but both are willing to step in to help as needed, so we are a team.
