May I suggest a bearded dragon instead? They are easy, docile, social lizards. We have a great time with ours. They like to be held, sunbathe in the window, and are even calm enough to play with.

We have dwarf rabbits. They can be litter box trained.
They are very sweet and my kids love them. Ours live in a rabbit hutch, but some people let them run free in their house. We have a dog, so that's not an option.
