But the "whole" dates -- they have them with the chilled produce even at the small Safeway near my house. My kids will eat them out of the bag, and then I find the bag empty and can't use them to make things! Mostly I made "cookies" or energy bars using this basic "recipe" than can be adapted to anything.

I like using dried cherries and almonds, which comes out like the cherry pie larabars. hum!

My Registered Dietitian recommended Dates with Ricotta Cheese as a snack--yum!

Most grocery stores will have them in boxes in the produce section. Costco is the best deal though.

I chop them up and throw them in salads.

Mejdool is a variety of dates. They are big and delicious. I have seen them at Costco (fruit section) and Trader Joes in the produce section.

I love dates but have only ever had the brands that are distributed by the raisin/prune etc. distributors -- Dole; Sunkist etc.

What are madjool dates? Is that a brand? Or a different variety?

Not sure about dates, but we found mango to really help.

Mejdool dates are delicious. I buy them at Costco but they are easily available.
They are high in calories though: 2 dates=140 calories.

+1-- I put dates, oats, chia seeds or flax, and pb in the food processor and freeze the little "cookies" for my kids' snacks. This combination will definitely help a constipated toddler!

I find the ones with pits are softer and don't find the pits hard to remove. I actually order them in bulk from Amazon because we love them, they're slightly cheaper, and there are more varieties than at our supermarket.

First PP here -- do you have a recipe you go off of? Love making these kinds of things...so easy.

We buy madjool dates from Trader Joe's. They're in the produce section, not the dried fruit section.

Reduce her milk intake and up her water intake.

I love dates. By themselves, in oatmeal, or spread with a little cream cheese.

But for my DD, I second what a PP said about pears - they always seemed to work the best for you. Pears and the freeze-dried mango from Trader Joe's.

A question, though - are you sure the yogurt smoothies aren't hurting? A lot of dairy can be hard on stopped up stomachs, even yogurt.

To the PPs who talk about pits - just buy the pitted dates! You can get them at WF or Mom's. My kids love them!
