Because there are hundreds of thousands of houses, so if you want to try to find pp's grill with the key under it, you go right ahead and be everyone's guest.

Millions of houses! Let us know how it goes!

I'm a nanny and I've seen lock boxes, fake sprinkler heads, under the watering can and combination locks. I think the main thing is not have it be obvious.

We put a keyless lock on the front door.

Much easier! And you never have to worry about being locked out, or your kids losing their keys, or letting workman in if you aren't there, or letting guests in if they get there when you're not there.

I don't lock my shed(nothing in it worth stealing) and I have a spare house key on a nail on one of the hidden supports.
Has been used many, many times.

Can you lock your shed? We lock our shed with a combination lock and put a key in there. It's been used many a time!

I suggest somewhere away from your front door. In the back (so others can't see you getting it) under a rock would be fine.

Giving a key to the neighbors is a bad idea. Criminals know that people don't hide their neighbor's keys as well as they hide their own. My guess is that your neighbor has your key in a kitchen drawer. If they get robbed, you're next. Also, contractors that come to their house (cleaning, etc.) have access to copy your keys.
