I am the other Loudoun poster. I am very happy with class sizes in our ES.

How? HR only approves additional staff based on overall numbers. Those class sizes wouldn't make the cut in HR's eyes.

No idea. A "typical" grade at our school has 5 teachers (the grades are about 120 kids) but whenever a "large" grade rolls thru, that grade gets a 6th class. Last year it was the 3rd grade, this year it will be the 4th.

I thought the principal has some discretion about stuff like this? We are in LCPS.

Oh. That could be the difference. I'm in FCPS.

FCPS teacher here--The principal does have some control over class size. I teach at a non-title 1 school, and for the past nine years, my class size has been between 20-26 students (third grade). Our admin tends to cut back on other non-teaching positions (I have no idea what a "coach" who doesn't work with students does all day, for example). They have also used school funds to "buy" an additional teacher in order to keep class sizes reasonable.

I'm the first PP again. I was pleased to learn that once again there are only 22 kids in my child's class!!
