Be careful, some of Veinna goes to Marshall HS, South Lakes and some of Oakton goes to Fairfax HS.

ES doesn't affect price. HS is the determining factor in price.

Is this true, ES has little impact on price or resale value?

We live in Vienna and love it and everyone I know who lives here also loves it. Vienna has this amazing small town feel

LOL "Be careful"

Marshall and Fairfax are rated better than Vienna or Oakton in different ranking

Of course every year it flip flops.

They're all great schools, but if you want more "white" which is often the subtext in these discussions, you want Madison or Oakton.

The topic of South Lakes has been discussed ad nauseum. The search feature is your friend.

+1 all of these high schools have been discussed recently. Please read some back threads.

I had two kids at Kilmer and it was very mediocre. I chalked it up to just being a middle school but we moved to a different part of Fairfax and the middle school my younger kids attended was much better. Some AAP parents are happy, and others who just want to promote their neighborhoods will say positive things about it, but it's not that great and it churns principals regularly.

I am hearing that most Great Falls AAP middle school kids will be staying at Cooper for either local level IV or maybe they will put an AAP center there.

Was not impressed by Kilmer at all and would definitely prefer Thoreau given a choice.

Kilmer is larger but is ranked higher this year

Kilmer's issue is that it's not only an AAP Center, but it gets all the kids from new housing in the Tysons area. Things should improve there once Great Falls AAP kids are moved to a McLean middle school. But even with the high numbers Kilmer is a very well run school. All three of my kids went there and I have few complaints. It's middle school, after all. They're barely used to being there before they're moving on to high school.

Carson AAP is also in this band, and is amazing by almost any measure. Heard not so great thing from Jackson parents. Franklin is supposed to be strong & nurturing.

Demographics are best at Thoreau over kilmer and jackson. I can't comment on Hughes.

Academics are stronger at Jackson (AAP) than Thoreau. I base that on my DD's experience: She is having to work much harder at Jackson (AAP) than her friends at Thoreau work. Furthermore, talking to Madison teachers, the kids from Jackson have a much easier time than those from Thoreau (though some of that may be because the only kids Madison sees from Jackson are level IV AAP).

DD has found that some of the kids are rougher at LJ then she experienced elsewhere. It has only impacted her in Band and Physical ED.
