I am the pp you quoted. I could have written your post verbatim. I have switched to a new school of believe will be less toxic. Still title one.

Hang in there OP. Teachers were the most influential people in my life, hands down. I had a horrible family situation, and my escape was school. God, even at 48 years old, I'm tearing up over it now. When certain teachers cared about me, it made all the difference in the world. You are doing some of the most important life work there is.

OP (and fellow teachers), there are plenty of people who support teachers, even on DCUM. I am one of them. Go, teachers! Yay, teachers! Hooray for teachers!

It's an unpaid furlough. I'd rather work year round.

One word OP: Pension! Every year in is another year vested in the system. I'm in admin now but I know how hard the first week back is especially as a now veteran you are anticipating how stressful and busy the start of the year is.

Get yourself a nice meal with leftovers to take in for tomorrow. Also pack yourself a nice snack to look forward to. Wishing you an easy school year!

Good luck tomorrow! I love my job but feel like this a lot of sundays. I think it is the feeling of getting in a routine, managing the child care for the week, the commute, getting dressed in suits/ heels, lunches, dinners, etc.

Once I am at the office, I almost always have a great day as I love my clients and feel like I am making a difference. It is just the logistics of life that are harder for me mon- thurs so I often start to feel overwhelmed thinking about it. However, once doing it I am ok. Hope this makes sense.

OP here. I did not have ten weeks off. I worked at "camp" (our extended summer program), as did many of my colleagues. Was sweating outside and surrounded by kids for five weeks of our eight week break. The rest of the time I did indeed use for vacation. If you resent that, well, I don't know what to say.

OP, take next summer off. I'm the 26 year teacher and I was like you for years, either working or taking classes (to finish my master's degree) or working on curriculum, etc.). I even had an 11 month contract for about 10 years. I finally throttled back. You need to take care of yourself first. Otherwise you will be no good for your students.

STFU! I don't know a single teacher who has 10 weeks off. Everyone does something whether it's working a second job or taking courses so they can hone their craft.

OP, take a deep breath and dive in. It's too bad there's so much outside crap involved in teaching that makes it so tough to do. What grade(s) do you teach?

NP here. So do I! I worked summer summer school for 6 weeks, set up the room and went to trainings another week and now here we are!

--Teacher, who cut down from 60 to 20 hours for 4 weeks this summer, and otherwise worked more than full time hours.
