Today's Post--young rapper life cut short in PG and man stabbed to death for bumping some with his bag on MetroBus. Both newsworthy, the first due to untapped potential the second to random crime again on PUBLIC TRANSPORT. There is a group of people in our tri state area for whom life is cheap and who feel they can operate with impunity (which makes sense given the revolving door of youth punishment, shoddy rehab, scared witnesses and subpar solve rate). In addition to 'long term solutions' we need immediate and better policing, coordination and cameras. Summer jobs program us great, but not if you get killed on the bus going to your job.

No, not everything has a racial slant. But in a city where 90% of the homicides are black, what are the odds that the ones we hear about on DCUM are all white? Extremely low, unless it actually has a racial slant to it. This is not my mind. This is a matter of mathematical probabilities.

Actually, you could also point out that at least 80% of the homicides are ones where the victim had some sort of preexisting relationship with their killer. Situations where the victim has no relationship with the killer are much, much more rare. Also more newsworthy.

You will notice that Homicide Watch has not posted homicides since December 2014. The Boston organization that runs it needs to find someone local to run it. Someone like you, who wants to see every homicide covered -- not just cut and pasted.

I'm a millenial and one night I walked from dupont circle to stadium armory (this was in march) at 2-3am. I'm a small framed guy. It was a thursday night. I didn't feel like I was in danger.

were you in DC when the Trinidad neighborhood was shut down? They had police checkpoints for going into the area in 2008.

did you know any of the young millenials who have been victims of violence? a co-worker was a victim of stray bullet in Shaw at 5PM on Saturday.

just because you survived something does not mean it was a smart thing to do.

All you have to do is look at the decline in areas where liberals are not wanting to 'insult anyone' by going easy on crime.

You don't remember when people were executed in Macolm X Pak and walking around Capitol Hill at night was the diciest of propositions. This crime trend is troubling. There are predators in DC for whom life is very cheap. And the police are on the defensive. the Mayor and Lanier need to come out with a strong statement of support for the police and a plan. Also, more cameras. Lets keep you and everyone else 'feeling' safe.

We live in VA. Both time there were active crime issues in my area, the criminals were from PG county
