The popular red carpet pose is one hand on a hip and one leg slightly bent and almost in front on the other. I think this works well for celebrities because they are so thin and usually do not have curves. The pose creates the illusion of hips/hourglass shape much like peplum dresses.

Yeah, I was clueless about this. I thought OP was referring to the hands on hips pose which informs a child or a dog that nothing is going to happen until they follow the command I just issued them.

Posing with your hand on your hip is not a new, millennial thing. The duck lips thing is though, and it's atrocious.

I do think it helps with fat/untoned arms, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I'd feel like some sellout fool. I have a friend that does this all the time now and it looks like she's trying too hard.

Getting a picture where I'm happy with how I look is hard enough. If I want to put my hands on my hips to make the whole experience less painful so be it lol. At least I'm not nmaking a duck face!

My skinniest, most gorgeous, seriously-could-be-a-superstar friend poses this way in every picture, and it kills me because she's ALREADY SKINNY. Leave this pose for us fatties.

But I do have to pee! Don't make me laugh...

I do this when I'm being stern. I never pose like that.

Yes. My DD is 18 and most of the photos I see of her peers are this pose. She also occasionally adopts it, too. And the fish faces, ugh!
