I guess the reason I'm confused is that I just don't spend that much time next to my outdoor trash can and it always smells like SOMETHING bad. It holds trash. Perhaps poop just is equal to me on the bad smells of rotting food/whatever else is in there.
Like I just envision all these bitter people opening their trash cans and sniffing angrily to see if they detect poop in the myriad of other gross oders. Like for the probably 30 aggregate seconds a week I am close enough to smell it, I am just assuming it smells bad because its trash.
We don't keep our outdoor trash can outdoors all the time. It mostly stays in our garage and goes out on trash night, and comes back in that evening. We hose it out periodically. So yes, I really do care if it smells extra bad, and I would be highly irritated if I brought the can back in not realizing that you threw your dog shit in there. To those of us who don't handle your dog's poop on a daily basis, trust me- it smells way worse than ordinary trash. And no- I'm not a bitter person just because I'm not offering up my trash can as your pet's toilet. Would you think it appropriate for me to poop in a bag and throw it in your trash?

I legitimately wouldn't care because I feel like the grand total of time I spend near my trash can smelling is is like, at the absolute max like a minute or two a week. That's why I'm confused, I don't spend anywhere near enough time next to my outdoor trash can to even contemplate what specific products are producing what specific smells. I kind of have a hard time imagine the person who does.

I am a dog owner who picks up after my dogs and who does not put the bags in your trash can because I've seen enough complaints about people who hate it but I genuinely don't understand WHY people hate it. Its your outdoor trash can. I never even look in my outdoor trashcan, certainly not closely enough to have noticed a rogue dog poop bag.
Genuinely curious because I feel like the people who DO do this are actually trying to be conscientious dog owners but people seem to get SUPER bent about it.
Right there. If I WANTED dog shit in MY trash can, I'd get a dog!

Anonymous wrote:I put my own dog's poop bags in our own trash. First of all, it stinks. Secondly, the trash guys are sloppy and the poop bag occasionally winds up in the street in front of my house. Other times, the poop bag remains in the bottom of the trash can because they didn't shake it out. I'm pretty sure my neighbors would be upset if that happened to them and they didn't even own a dog.
