It's actually my niece and my great nephew. I love her to pieces but it's her only kid and she hovers like crazy, so I'm really not sure that what she says is ok will be okay when the time comes.

She even said she knew he was fine but she wanted him home. She's married, but to a ne'er do well, so they're rather poor.

Next summer is a ways off. I'd just be asking about the migraine issue, in a normal way--does he get them a lot, does he take medication, etc. Don't borrow trouble.

wow that is unbelievably rude. I would not think it was a big deal if she came and picked up her child if he was in pain.

So rude. I would have said no.

Me too.

You refer to the mom like she's a stranger. Isn't this your sister or sister in law? And if your SIL where was your brother in the beach house debacle? Does the nephew have a history of migraines or was this a one time thing?

Anyway -if this family doesn't have a car that drives 2 hours away I assume they are poor. Don't take out your frustration with your brother/sister on the kid. It sounds like the trip will be a good opportunity for him.

Sounds like this kid needs to be far from his mom for a bit. Migraines can be handled in California as well as in dc.

Unfortunately, that other family has probably written off the nephew.
