We pay 15 when he found absolutely the right person. I come from Eastern Europe, I would like to bring my relatives, but I live too far away. ))

Mother's helper 7 or 8 as long as you are there to intervene and not taking a nap.

Sitter
Highschool: $8-10 and I give tip or gift card for birthdays/holidays if they are good, even if we have only used a few times

College $11-14 and I give tips for birthdays/holidays if they are good (I start low and if they are good pay per hour increases) I also usually pay for the full hour so if we are gone 2 hours and 40 minutes, I pay for 3 hours

$10/hour for independent babysitting for HS

But the teen is giving the same amount of time regardless of whether you are home or not. My daughters say they usually are asked to do more when they are helpers vs. when they babysit alone (because usually the kids go to bed at some point)

My high schooler would not go out of her way to sit for less than $8 (because she makes more than that at her job) but my junior high child would.

I think your kids should have a minimum of $10/hr.

Getting the one day American Red Cross Babysitting certification is also a smart thing. They should know that caring for a child is a very important responsibility. And so should the parents who hire them... and pay accordingly.

$8-10 in SS. In Georgetown, we paid $12 for a GW student. Never had a shortage of sitters.

The rate will really depend on the area you live in. For the wealthier neighborhoods you'll probably have to go to $15/hour for them to forgo their own plans or select your job over others.
We did find one for $10/hour but eventually her mom called and said she was being underpaid for one kid out of diapers!

1st time babysitting our one child- $9. If it went well, the next time I pay $10. After that we stick with $10, but give a "bonus." If we use the same person at some point during the holiday season it's $10/hr and a gift card to their favorite store.

We don't ask the person to drive our child, prepare meals or anything. No diapers to change. Doesn't need to help with homework.
