4H offers youth programs that let kids gain leadership experience and do projects that focus on specific interests. In more rural areas there is a heavier focus on agriculture and farm animal type projects. They youngest age to join is 5 which is the Cloverbuds.

We live in the Midwest, and my boys love it. My younger one doesn't have his own project yet, but he tags along and plays with the other kids. My older son had his own little rabbit and chicken project. If you find the right club, you can totally do it in the city. 4H has projects besides animals, especially for fair. Our club has photography, table setting (decorate a table based on theme), and tons of craft based projects. If you want an animal project, small animals might work. All you need is one decent quality rabbit or guinea pig to show. Someone in the club can help you choose one, and show you what to look for. Good luck!!
