Is any of the shows I first mentioned free? Good wife, homeland, for instance?

So how does a firestick work? Is it like combination of Roku and a flash drive? IOW, a streaming device that also lets you download programs to play on another device? Can you get all the channels you can with a Roku?

Yes, there is a separate icon for Amazon. If you have a smart TV (and therefore no need to own a separate streaming device such as Apple TV, Roku, etc), the Amazon icon should automatically appear. Make sure you always update your software. They are always adding additional content sources for viewers. There's actually quite a bit of free content out there so definitely worth it. If you have kids, the PBS Kids is fantastic...

If you have young kids there is tons of great content. And the ability to buy an episode or season and take it with you anywhere via the fire stick is great!

Depends on what you are looking for....I have found some TV shows from a while back that have entire seasons for free (Veronica Mars for example). I do think their movie selection should have more free ones though. I mean, if you are seeking a movie that is 10+ years old, why should you have to pay for it? I have prime, BTW.

The Fire stick is much faster than our blu ray players. The reason to get it is it's easy and $39.

However, I've noticed that Netflix doesn't look as sharp on the Fire stick app as it does on the blu ray player. I'm not sure if there's a setting I haven't figured out yet, or if it's a conspiracy by Amazon to get you to stop watching Netflix and watch their other Prime stuff instead.
