I'm the OP. I'm more confused than ever. I guess part of me was hoping there was a "right" choice because I had such buyers remorse over the corian.

With either, it seems like the 4in matching backsplash is also going out of style.

I agree that certain granite looks are dated, like the ones with big swirly patterns or lots of obvious mottling, but personally I still like the look. Quartz looks really flat and synthetic to me. I still like some granites with very small patterns and I agree that when you get the honed instead of polished it looks every bit as up to date. You should also check out leathered finishes for granite. They're pretty cool.

We put in quartz last year. I mainly chose that because the granites seemed too busy with veining and flecks and I wanted a very neutral pattern. We chose Silestone Tigris Sand and I love how it looks. It's not a solid color but has a kind of tone-on-tone cream and white pattern. However, it does have it's downsides -- we got one chip on the counter edge.

Everyone will complain but will take granite regardless of their individual taste unless they are rich

Whatever one you like. Granite will always be more beautiful and unique because it's a natural stone.

Don't worry about "trends." Go with what you like and what is most practical for the way you use your kitchen. You can't worry about what some mythical future buyer might want. If a buyer truly dislikes something, they will just change it.

I personally would be unhappy with most of the quartz I've seen, but I wouldn't let that stop me from buying a house I liked. I would just change it out to a granite after I moved in.

I really don't have a preference between the two,, although I definitely have been happy with granite in our last two kitchens. I don't even know whether we have Quartz or granite in the place we just bought. Marble would be a turn off, way too easily damaged.

I think all polished granite looks dated. I'd do honed granite if I was dying for granite. However quartz it what input in my new kitchen. Some granite can be classic, but the majority of what I see out there is pretty awful.

I hate Granite. It's so ugly and always looks dirty becuase of the weird flecks and veining.

We love our white marble - so soft looking, but turned out to be more durable than we thought!
