I'm not taking my 4-year-old because I think it'll go over his head, but since PG means "parental guidance suggested," I think the folks who are bringing their kids are certainly within their rights, especially if they do their research and consider what's best for their child. There are very few quality G-rated movies nowadays.
Tangled? Annie (1982 version)? Shrek? Frozen? Honey I Shrunk the Kids? All PG.
