You forgot to add 'and offense taken where none was given'.

I feel sorry for your MIL.

If it had happened on any other day, she likely would not have remembered the exact day, much less comment on it every year.

I learned to let it go.

Thats why i kept my pregnancies quiet until 13 weeks.

Miscarriages can happen past then.

Okay here's a quick flowchart:

Is MIL a terrorist? Yes-- she meant something by it. Take offense. No. Forget it.
Is MIL a conspiracy theorist? Yes-- she meant something be it, but is just a nutcase, so don't take it personally. No-- don't take offense.
Is MIL a Dick Cheney style 'never forget' jingoistic patriot? Yes-- okay, you can be a little creeped out that she wants your kid born on 9/11, but she will probably get him a parade and a brass band in his honor. So take no offense. If no- don't be offended.

MIL is being excited and kind of thoughtless. New grandparents do this with some regularity sometimes. Don't worry about this. Invest your energy with DH to make sure you have a good visiting plan, that sort of thing.

Is this comment about 9/11 or FIL? Exaggerating what?

It's obvious she didn't mean something bad by it, OP.
