Also, the 50% divorce rate includes all marriages. The rate for first marriages is lower, because the rates for second, third, etc. marriages is sky high.

The men that are the most financially successful are often the first ones to divorce and/or cheat.

OP here. You just reminded me that I know 2 people whose husbands were previously married (no kids in first marriage.)

But it so uncommon that it's remarked upon and surprising. Sounds like we are on the young end for divorcing. I thought the statistic was a big chunk of divorces happen in the first 2 years.

OP, my circle is mid to upper 30's, with kids late preschool and elementary. Maybe 60% have graduate degrees, UMC.

Can you post any links on this? I grew up hearing the 50% statistic and frankly, it factored into my decision to wait until my mid-thirties. I was surprised when I first heard the gigantic discrepancies on divorce rates based on educational level, religious affiliation, age, etc. I don't think it's helpful to group everyone together because it skews perception.

I couldn't find the data to support this assertion of 15%. Do you have a source? The Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn't quantify using these categories at this time.

My BIL and SIL are divorcing. They are both early 40's, got married in their late 20's. It makes me sad. I can see both sides, but I really think if SIL understood how important it is for men to feel appreciated, this could be avoided. BIL says he feels like an underappreciated employee and it's not hard to imagine, knowing SIL.

They're the only ones in my circle so far.

LOL. In my group, the first wave of marriages happened between 35 and 45. I'm guessing the first wave of divorces will happen after kids go to college -- which will be when people are in their 60s!

Most CEO's are divorced and multiple wives.
