I panicked after reading these responses and found one tiny bit of reassurance online: one review found that on ave girls grow 3 inches after starting to menstruate. Girls who start at 10 grow more on ave (4 in); girls who start at 15 grow less (2 in).

My daughter was always very tall - 99% percentile on the chart. I am 5'8, husband 6'4" but she got period early (10) and seems to have stopped growing at 5'6". Not a bad height, but with two tall parents we all thought she would end up being taller.


Can I ask how tall your DD was at 10? My DD is 10 1/2 and 5'2", she just got her first period. Her father is 6'3", I am 5'4" and she definitely has the big feet from his side. I have always expected her to be taller than me but maybe not.

Similar experience for me. Started high school at 4'10" and finished at 5'6". Added a couple more in college. And very late on my period, 15, nearly 16.


Did you have constitutional growth delay pp? I'm asking because that is what my Dd's ped says she has - she is 5 but her bone age is 3.5 and her hormone is normal. She says DD will grow slower but for longer, and that puberty probably will be late too....


I've never heard of this before but just read about it. My daughter may have this. Not sure I need to get her tested, though.

Got period right at 10 and grew about 2 inches after that, is now 5'2"
Interestingly she was much taller than her peers from 10-12 (back row center for photos) and is now one of the tiny girls sorority squatting in the front

I got my period at 12 when I was around 5'2" and sort of pudgy. A year later had a growth spurt when I was 13 and grew 2 or 3 inches over the summer, I lost my baby fat and went back to school slim. I had teachers asking me "what I had done" - it was awesome.

Same for me, late bloomer went from 5'6" at age of period and ended up about 5'9".

About 2.5". She was like 5'3 1/2" now she is close to 5'6".

I didn't grow another inch after I got my period. I think in some cases girls take after their father's side of the family. My daughter is physically very similar to my husband and his mom.
