I was thinking of husband, kids, etc. If it's just you, then I agree, much less.

I wouldn't carry all the $$ on me, though I might stuff some in my bra for safekeeping.

How many people are you traveling with? Is your hotel, rental car, etc paid for? I would probably take $3k.

Tours and hotel already paid for. Hearing that many restaurants are not accepting credit cards. Traveling with a friend so only need $ for me. I was thinking $100/day would do. Can't imagine taking $3k. Robbery waiting to happen.

?he Greek Ministry for Tourism would like to inform visitors to Greece that capital controls introduced by the Greek Government do not apply to those wishing to withdraw money from an ATM or carry out any other type of transaction using credit or debit cards issued abroad.
Moreover, the Ministry does not expect any inconvenience in visitor’s every day holiday experience, neither in the islands nor in mainland Greece, as there are adequate fuel supplies, products and services.
Greece continues to offer the highest quality of tourism services to its visitors, who have ranked Greece as one of the best destinations worldwide. Tourists can now use their credit cards to visit the Acropolis.
The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Mrs Elena Kountoura, said that Greece still is and will always be a favorite destination for holidaymakers. Visitors currently in Greece as well as people planning to visit Greece will not be affected by the latest developments and they can continue to enjoy their holidays in Greece without any problems whatsoever.

"The U.K.’s Foreign Office updated its travel advice for Greece on Monday, warning that banking services in the country, including credit-card processing and servicing of ATMs, could potentially become limited at short notice.

“We recommend travelers take sufficient euros in cash to cover the duration of their stay, emergencies, unforeseen circumstances, and unexpected delays,” Treasury chief George Osborne said, adding that they also should take sensible precautions against theft. On average 150,000 British tourists a week visit Greece in the month of July, he said."

Jesus. I am really not sure I would do this PP. So many places there are no longer taking credit cards etc. Even with 1000s in euros, the country is undergoing a huge crisis. Can you move your vacation to another country??

Not every bank will have them. Call around first.

My local Wells Fargo has them, just curious if that's the best rate.

From the article you linked. Points 1 & 2

1. Banks are closed - Greek banks will be closed until July 7....
2. But ATMs will re-open - ATMs were not operating Monday....
