Brenda Berberian is fabulous but I’m fairly certain she is not taking new patients. It is hard enough to get an appointment as an existing patient.

I'll never understand the "don't Google it whatever you do!" crowd. The internet is a veritable fountain of valuable information. Obviously you have to use some discretion. Why do some of you prefer to be in the dark?

Certainly it's important to go to a doctor also, but if I didn't check out stuff on the internet I wouldn't know a fraction of the important info I need to know about medical conditions and possibilities. And often I find out stuff my doctor doesn't even know.

Please, please, please insist on getting that biopsied. Don't just go to a "regular" derm, go to an skin cancer specialist. Please. I have personal experience with this.

There was another mark on my face that has been there for awhile, which they were concerned about -- a little red dot. They "froze it" (I forget the technical term), and if it does not go away, or comes back, they want to biopsy it. Does that sound right?

This happens to me whenever I go to the dermatologist. They aren't worried about the thing I came in to see them about, but they want to biopsy some tiny speck I hadn't even noticed. This shows that you should get your skin checked every year, but you shouldn't panic about things that look funny to you (although you obviously should get those checked out).

Really? I'm not pp but I have the same issue in three places. Have for years and the different derms I've seen shrugged it off. Never liked any of them much, though, since they gave me a hard time about worrying about skin cancer in my 20s. Maybe it's time to find a good doc. Any recs?

Johns Hopkins has a skin cancer derm posted in Columbia. Dr. Anna Chien. Agree - Do not go to a regular derm.

OP again. A little side note. This was my second time visiting this dermatology office, and I remember thinking the same thing last time.

They have a TV in the waiting room which advertises various products and services they offer. It makes you consider insecurities you never even knew were a possibility before. Although none of it sunk in for me, it makes me feel a little floored each time -- it just seems so rude.

Some examples:
