I had a live-in girlfriend of several years cheat on me one time with a random dude while she was away on a business trip. Turns out she had been emailing him after the trip and before her next one and met up with him on her next business trip to the same spot. I caught her via email. It was pretty devastating. We broke up for a brief time then got back together. I later met a rando girl online and hooked up with her while the gf was away on another business trip to the same location. Several months later, while the gf was on yet another trip to the same spot and was apparently hanging out with her new friends there that she made over the course of her several trips, I slept with two women during one weekend. One was a rando I'd met in a bar and one was a mutual friend of mine and the gf's. It took forever to get all of the two girls' long hair strands out of our bed; I guess some women shed a lot. My gf came home a couple days later and said that she had decided to move to the place she had been taking all the trips to (I think I was pretty much expecting that). I don't really feel any remorse about it because I really think by that point my gf had become a serial liar and cheater. I never would have cheated on the gf in a million years if she hadn't done it first; she really poisoned the well. I'm now married to someone else and would never dream of cheating on her.

Yes I cheated once. The guilt was awful so it never happened again. But I'm very very unhappy now. I discovered that DH had an affair that lasted quite a while, years. I feel so alienated, rejected, disliked, and he's not very remorseful and didn't do much to repair it.

So, I'm not cheating, but I'm enjoying lusty conversations.

Our marriage is ending anyway, court date set. Sad.

The fallacy with this argument is it assumes you don't want to be with your spouse or that you want to be with someone else always. I would imagine when most people cheat it's because they just briefly want to experience something new and exciting again. Speaking personally, I have no intention of ever cheating but if I did, it would be for that reason and not even a reflection on my spouse whom I would NOT want to leave. It wouldn't be done out of anger or malice or resentment toward my spouse, it would simply be because the temptation of having one of those long forgotten wild nights of sec with someone to don't already know every inch of would just be too good to pass up. No way would I need my marriage and implode my family over it! But again, I would never do it because I know how it would devastate my spouse if they were to find out.

I cheated on a boyfriend in college, and to me it was a sign that I was really over with him so I ended the relationship. I've never been tempted to cheat on my husband. Even when I've been attracted to other men, it never seemed remotely worth the risk of damaging my marriage or hurting him that way.

I don't understand how or why people cheat. If you want to go be intimate with someone else, break up, separate, or get a divorce. Or discuss having an open relationship.

And yes, it is "just that easy," no matter your circumstances. It's not complicated at all. There's never any reason to cheat.
