I did not start dance lessons until I was 12. I was trained in modern dance techniques including Martha Graham and Jose Limon. At the end of high school, I was invited to join a new start up modern dance company in NYC through my teachers. I decided not to do it because I wanted to finish college and there was no money to be made.

I did take dance classes at college in the dance dept but the teachers were very critical because I was not ballet trained from an early age and very discouraging. But I continued taking all the dance courses I could in the PE department and teaching folk dance. I kept dancing and performing as an amateur until I was in my 30s and then had to give that up due to career demands. I still like all kinds of dance.

I also learned how to play soccer when I was 17 and was on one of the first women's teams in the U.S. in 1979.

To me the goal is to have fun and find something physical you like to do for your lifetime.
