Subject: Are there other Republican parents at your charter?
I honestly have no idea why political affiliation would matter at all. Find other things to talk about with families. I am liberal but try not to talk about the following with families from school (and outside of school, for that matter): politics, religion, and what I "do" for a living (such an annoying question).

depends on where you live. every sought after Hill school has at least some Republicans, including some of the leftiest DCPS schools. It's entirely unremarkable, just like having Republican neighbors

I am the pp, and this is what I'd do as well. But I'm sure you would understand that, despite the fact that I may not disagree with your politics (I'm a left-leaning independent), you'd be marking yourself as an aggressive/hostile person. Polite people understand that politics can be highly contentious, and your opinions aren't something you drop into idle chitchat. When you deliberately try to stir things up, people will avoid you regardless of your politics.
I meant to say right-leaning independent, started to phrase it differently and did a bad job editing.

NP here. The downtown/Shaw area is about 5% republican, according to political records for the area.

This sounds about right to me. There are many who didn't support Bowser, but I can't actually think of a single person who is an out Republican at MV. Not that they wouldn't be accepted, but honestly it depends on the reasons for identifying as Republican. MV core values include promoting environmental sustainability and cultural and socio-economical diversity. Moreover, the school has a continued demonstrated goal of spreading costs such that there are steep sliding scales for any item that requires payment by the family. If these goals are not consistent with yours, it probably won't be a great fit for your family. At the very least, you would be frequently frustrated by the school policies, but more likely you would have a hard time with what your children are being taught.
