Does a kid make a distinction between a step-grandparent? I doubt it (Unless the parents do), especially if they are young and will just grow up knowing you as another grandparent. I'd go with some "grandparenty" name not already taken by another set of grandparents.

This. Our kids just call each other's parents what they go by with the rest of the kids. So, Nanny on one side and Oma on the other. Truly no big deal.

As I see this thread has been exhumed after a year, I'll update to say that the kids have ended up calling me by my first name. They have a grandma and they don't want another, so we're forging our own special relationship. It's really all about being another loving, positive adult in their lives, not trying to fit a role just because of technicalities, so we're good.

Just pick something different from what they call their other grandparents. So if she's Nana, you can be Grammy or whatever. Otherwise it's confusing. My Dd calls my mom Grandma and my dad's wife Grammy Sue.

Both my parents remarried when I was a kid (8 and 13). I started off calling the Grandpa/ma Lastname. As I got to know them better I just called them Grandma/pa. I spent more time with my step grandparents than my bio grandparents so it was just natural to call them as such.

I was also incredibly lucky that my step-grandparents treated me exactly the same as their bio grandkids. I am so grateful for that.

I married a wonderful widower with four (now five) grandkids. I have no kids of my own. We both were super-careful about being respectful of his late wife's memory. The kids were all under ten when we married and only the older ones had clear memories of their "real" grandma. They started out calling me Grandma Firstname. Some of them have now migrated to just "Grandma."

I have a "step" cousin who is my own age. Her mom married my uncle when she (the cousin) was 2. She called my grandparents Grandma and Grandpa because they considered her a grandchild. It was not weird and my Grandma was a very loving person who treated my cousin no differently than her "blood" grandchildren.

On the other end of the spectrum, my kids don't call my dad's wife anything because I hate my dad's wife and don't want my kids anywhere near her.

Stepma/Steppa?

I do not have grand kids...but both my mom and DW's mom have passed away. My father remarried; DW's father shacked up (sees no need to marry). In both cases, my DD calls the new women (who have been in her lie for about 8 of her 13 years) by their first names.

How about "Granda?"

My husband has two stepparents. Our kids call them Grandma <first name> and Grandpa <first name>
