Someone on DCUM once recommended using a jar of pepperoncini with pork loin in the slow cooker. It is amazing!!

Jesus Christ. Meat cooked in coke is everything wrong with this country.

Unless you have a fight in Walmart afterwards to exercise off the calories.

No, good pork just needs vinegar, salt and pepper, and chili flakes.

Bless your heart. I bet your collards and cornbread are just to die for.

I use a can of root beer in the slow cooker. Delicious, moist and very flavorful.

Not the pp but you are both ignorant and rude. A very unpleasant combination. Pulled pork is a specialty of the South and good things can happen with a can of Coke and a big piece of smoked or slow cooked meat. Coke is not my sweetener of choice but any aficionado of Southern cooking can tell you that it is an acceptable addition. And the number of calories of one can of soda added to the cooking liquid, and poured off at the end, would not be a big problem when you consider how many servings are in one pork shoulder. In other words, you are just being a dick. I also think that your pulled pork recipe lacks balance. A little sweetener would help a great deal. If you want to be a snob, you can go with honey or maple syrup.

NP here. Um, no. You're wrong. Using coke/dr. pepper to tenderize is DELICIOUS. And my weight is just fine, thanks.

The last time I did pulled pork, I did a rub and a homemade mustard based BBQ sauce. And it was effing amazing. I don't know the recipes off the top of my head (helpful, I know), but the rub was from the pitt masters website. I put the rub on the pork and put the meat in the slow cooker for about 8 hours - I added about half a can of beef stock to the crock, shredded everything and then mixed the juices back into the pork. So good.

What cut of pork did you use? If you didn't use the right cut, it will be bland and dry.
