Tomorrow I am painting my kitchen and dining room in Ball Green from Farrow & Ball. Really nervous about how it will come out but I'm ready to take the plunge!

We have a dark chocolate bedroom with white trim and it is amazing.

Light and neutral whole house colors are trendy right now - whites, light greys, light blues, etc. Bold wall colors are not trendy. Bring in color through accessories.

I'll amend my previous comment. Navy and white, as OP is thinking, are fine. In the 2000s, there were a bunch of housewives doing navy and yellow, navy and red etc. That's not good.

The four colors you listed (navy, fuschia, yellow and gold) do not belong together under any circumstance.

I say yes to navy--it's still very much featured in magazines. I might go with a more neutral sofa though. Navy goes with almost as many colors as black so all sorts of combinations are possible. If you are into DIY you could paint side tables navy, have a navy rug with colors that you like and which you can pick up in pillows.

If you want a bold color, pick a room that will be easy to repaint if you get tired of it. And don't take it down onto the floor like in the picture.

Agree. I love bold and bright.

Only because of the white everywhere to offset the green. It's not practical for a family.

Hell even the prop kid was lily white.

I did this (a different shade of green) for our house -with little kids, and I love it. All the furniture is neutral, the stone fireplace is neutral, so the bold color on the walls makes it really fun. OP go for it! It's just paint!

Agree. I love bold and bright.

It only looks awesome because the artwork is relatively calm and both black and white, all the furniture is white (get real for most people), and there is almost no "stuff" anywhere. No remotes on the coffee or side tables, no bookcase with lots of books or DVDs, no TV, no pictures of people, white drapes on extra-high windows, an insane amount of throw pillows. This would not look good in an average house.

I can't even find a "real" living room with that color that looks good. If you do something like that, I'd recommend one very small accent area and then plenty of white to off-set it. I think a mirror with a brightly colored frame would be more realistic in most people's homes though.

I'd stick with greige, gray, or beige walls; white trim; and then bring in lots of color through accent pieces. It is really hard for me not to put color on the walls, that's my first instinct - but houses do look so much better when they are neutral paint and fun color decor. Easier to update over the years too without starting from scratch.
