My son and his friends have a mini bonfire with schoolwork. They have done this for years.

Bumping this thread up since I'm guessing people will start posting the same question again this year. This is DD's first year in school, and I want to do something extra fun since I'm taking the afternoon off anyway.

Ice cream sounds like fun, so does a stop at the bookstore!

We go to the toy store at the beginning of summer and every kid gets to pick out an end of school year present that is somewhat bigger than usual but not huge - $30-40 usually. All of their birthdays are fall/winter so it's a nice way for them to get something fun. We usually try to pick out something that will be fun to play with or do and so occupy time. Maybe a little materialistic but its become something fun - and when they want something during the spring I'll deflect and say "why don't you keep that in mind for your end of year present."

We also do frozen yogurt on the day school gets out.

My mom always took us to Baskin Robbins for ice cream, and I plan to do the same with my kid who is about to finish K.

After school, I mean.

My kids get to pick a special lunch. They finished today. I figured we were going to go to the pancake house, sushi, or noodles and co. Nope. They wanted chicken piccata. I offered to go out for Italian. Nope, I had to make it.

So at 12:30 I found myself making chicken and pasta. I threw in a side of zucchini just because. I love that they love my cooking but I wasn't really planning on making a meal for lunch today. Next year I'll be more specific. I guess it all balances out though because dinner tonight was pizza at the pool.

No but wish we did. We are always heading out of town for our summer vacation so too crazed.
WE celebrate the first Friday of school by going out for ice cream before dinner. Dessert first night. That's probably what I would do for eNd of year too.

NP here. We've not put it the way PP did, but we also keep snacks to things that are grown.

It is sad if kids start to associate junk food with "fun,"especially if havInformation that fun leads to being overweight or obese.

This is a big deal for her because we almost never buy ice cream at the supermarket and the rule for after school snacks is they have to grow on the ground or in trees.

wow

what a fun household

What's the rule for snow cones? real snow with squeezed lemon and honey from your hive?

I don't think she's ever had a snow cone? I haven't. This IS a fun household. All our fun doesn't come from junk food though.
