We're spending about 10k on 3 kids for 9 weeks. I think the cheapest we could really find would be $300/wk/kid, but we let them each pick a couple weeks of more expensive camps. It's a major expense.

When do you start looking and enrolling? Some have early bird specials.
What camps? That's a lot

These are the best camps: having fun with your kids and literally disconnect from any structured setting.

I think hiring somebody to take them to the pool and enjoy an easy summer would be cheaper and less structured. I'm glad to be able to be able to do camps for fun and for childcare.

Check websites - Sidwell, Casa at Sheridan, Sidwell, Bricks4Kids, Kaizen Karate, DC Parks and Rec, MomiesTLC, Georgetown Day, Washington International School have rates listed online. Don't forget aftercare.

It's a ton. PP is right it is hard to get a slot at DC Rec.
We have found all day camps for $200/week plus aftercare as cheap as $10 a day, but most of the private school camps are at least $400 week plus $150 for aftercare. If you can cobble together vacation weeks, "grandparent camp" or backup daycare, that is helpful. Cheapest way we did it was to send our kids back to their daycare for the summer, a familiar setting for little kids. Now we do a private school camp plus karate camp and vacation weeks. About $4000 for two kids. Youch.

If you want daily swimming and need extended care, budget at least $500 per week. Our budget is about $4,500 per child.

I am having a difficult time processing your last sentence. You can understand this in so many different ways. Me, it angers greatly. I could understand you, and "forgive" you your ignorance, but you cannot be this stupid to really believe this. This goes beyond ignorance. And no one even called you out on this. You are either incredibly stupid, let's call you ignorant, or simply a bad human being. People like you are the reason I despise this city. If there are people who seem fit for Mao's cultural revolution, it is you and people alike.
