Reston and McLean are very different worlds. Most people with that budget choose McLean, but to each his own.

Um, Loudoun does have great ethnic restos. Taste of burma, zeitoon, doner kabob are good examples.
I find that the eastern Loudoun schools are excellent with exceptionally good college admissions.
I am also very happy with Loudoun Gymnastics and its world-class facilities and training staff.

I was stumped as well. Yes, people are busy here as they are in many areas of the U.S., but the area is also very transient so people are used to welcoming new folks. If you want to find friends, you will.

Another vote for 20171. Many nice large homes on the market in the 1 m to 1.5 range. Oakton high school which is very good and very close to everything.
Don't be weirded out by the herndon address. It's no where near there. Very affluent area with mansions everywhere.

What level of gymnastics? Personally if I could choose anywhere I'd choose Fair Lakes. I loved living in Fair Lakes because of the location and nearby amenities. Couldn't afford to buy more than a condo there but you could easily buy a nice house and it's very central. Or I would just consider Reston. I don't go up to Reston a lot, but really a lot of stuff is moving in there due to the Silver Line. I think it's worth looking at what's available see if it's meets your criteria. In Fair Lakes, you'd be within 20 minutes of several high level gymnastics facilities.

I'm the original McLean PP (who can't speak to gymnastics). I can speak to driving to Ballston for sports, and it's not a bad drive at all from where I live on the Langley side (on my cul-de-sac!). I work in Herndon, which is against traffic and takes me about 20 minutes in the morning, about 30 in the evening thanks to everyone trying to get back home to MD from Tysons.

I'm not sure where the current McLean High School gymnasts train, but a new gymnastics studio opened about 2 years ago now in North Arlington within a 10 minute drive of east side of McLean (22101). Lots of younger gymnasts have switched to it b/c it's nice and close - boys and girls teams. Because it's new, their teams are just building up, but they are pretty good - esp. for younger boys. It's called Dynamic Gymnastics - http://arlingtondynamicgymnastics.com/ If you're going to live on the west side of McLean, then one of the other gymnastic studios would probably be closer.

- Korean BBQ
- Brazilian BBQ
- Thai (maybe 4 places)
- Chinese (who knows how many)
- Turkish
- Lebanese - also downtown has a lebanese market
- Kabob (persian - maybe 4 places)
- Peruvian rotisserie chicken
- Mexican
- Steakhouses - J Gilberts, Capital grille, plus all the fancy chain ones you can imagine
Herndon/Reston also has all if those--not sure about Brazilian barbeque or Turkish. I can think of few areas in NOVA that don't have most of those.

Frankly, McLean/Tysons is by far the best place to live as far as dinner options go.
Best schools.
HOWEVER, in my experience, NoVA people are generally unfriendly and keep to themselves. And if you do interact, it might turn out negative. Just beware. . . I guess the only semi-friendly place I lived in VA was Alexandria. I never lived in Reston though - which might be a good second option for you. Hope this helps.

McLean or Vienna fit the bill. You could do Great Falls and have a lot of property, less neighborhood

Mclean if you want convenience and inner suburb (but you need to move quickly when you see something you like) Great Falls if you want a more country feeling. The traffic in NOVA is awful so take that into consideration.
