That's because you can't red shirt for Pk. Wait till k when all the 6.5 year olds show up.
You can redshirt for PK. What you can't do is move your kid up.
All you have to do to redshirt in PK is to say you want your kid to lottery into a school a year behind. So if my kid is eligible for PK4, I can just say I am lotterying for PK3.
Buy your kid will be Kindergarten age the following year and that's where DCPS will place her.
Exactly. I know at our JKLM there are no redshirted kids in PK- because they will be place in K. People who want to redshirt stay at private PK for an extra year and then enter at K.

When "late" becomes the norm you kinda have to go with the social flow of the school. I didn't realize how "young" she would of been if I sent her on time. Out of 27 kids, 10 of them would of been at least a year older then her! I moved from a location where people sent their kids on time but here they don't making it almost a disadvantage if you do. Its counter intuitive but just the way it is in this area.
And you don't live in DC do you? You must be talking about VA or MD.

Anonymous wrote:Another October parent here -- love that DC is one of the oldest in the class. And watching the development of the kids in the class above over the years ... so correct to keep my kid on time instead of pushing ahead, though we were tempted.
