I don't get it...
If they are smart enough to go to college, they are smart enough to get their own change.
The point is not whether quarters are still useful or not. Why wouldn't a normal kid not be able to get their own change, especially if you are talking about 100 if them (evidently not for consumptiom over a few days), not just a few coins exactly when they need them?

Neither of my kids used the campus bookstore for books - they order from Amazon or other sources. The campus bookstore is often overpriced relative to other options. On larger campuses the campus store has generally been outsourced to B&N.
Agree with Amazon gift cards - both my kids use amazon prime regularly for non textbook purchases.

OP, I think it's a good gift. I have 2 DCs in 2 different colleges and they said the card readers are often broken, so they like having quarters. They raid my house for them when they are home.

Huh? Best gifts were always money and gift certificates to the textbook store. Also get them Amazon gift cards.

Wow. I get the no quarters now thing, but it was a pretty useful gift 10 (okay, 20 for me) years ago. A relative gave me a few rolls of quarters, and it got me through at least two semesters of laundry.
Now? Something from the bookstore is good. A hoodie or something like that.
