I'd say don't have the medical procedure if it can't be done safely and effectively. Ultrasounds show where the pregnancy is - what if it's in the tube, and in the process, you rupture the tube? Or the tube ruptures a week or so later because the woman thought she wasn't pregnant anymore. How do you know if the contents of the uterus are completely evacuated? Do you know the risk of infection/bleeding/etc. if you leave even a piece of placenta? What if the uterus has an unusual position (i.e. tipped), is bi-cornate or heart-shaped? An ultrasound allows visualization for the doctor and makes the procedure infinitely safer for the women.

By crying 'rape' at this law, you are setting medical science backwards and putting women in danger. I don't consider that benevolent. In fact, I consider that ignorant.

I think a woman who is about to undergo a medical procedure involving her uterus should have an ultrasound. I don't love having a speculum once a year but I agree to that because I want the pap smear. I don't scream rape and ask the doctor to go in blind.

On the abortion issue why is it all or nothing? Can't we have some compromise?

I had a vaginal ultrasound with my first child and it hurt like hell!! Maybe I am tighter than you but my information is from direct and personal experience.

So you wouldn't mind if it was a regular ultrasound? True, no one forces you to look at an x-ray/ct scan, etc. but a good dr. Explains and shows you what's happening to your body before performing a procedure. Not doing so could even be considered negligent.
