Where is this magic china that is both durable enough for the dishwasher but still actually looks like fine china?

+1. Got rid of all my cheap stuff the moment we got married. We use formal china for every meal, every day. A bowl of cheerios isn't so mundane when it's in a super fancy bowl. It even motivates me to put a bunch of fruit in the cereal to make it live up to the bowl that it's in.

Well in Indian cuisine, traditional western formal china doesn't work, but yes I love to use formal dinnerware and serveware! Ours is a little different and I only bring it out for big festivals like Navaratri and Diwali. The arrangement for each place setting looks like this:

Formal dinnerware is fun and the kids feel more festive and enthusiastic about everything.

I use my once a month or so. I do put it in the dishwasher. I figure if I make it a big deal with hand washing I won't want to use it, and what is the point of having it if I don't use it. It still looks perfect except the glasses aren't silver rimmed any more.

+1 Me exactly. I love using it, but I knew that when my upper class NY food writer friend told me she never used the china she got for her wedding, there was no reason I should be registering for it.

If I were starting out on my own again in my 20s, I would've bought china for my everyday. We love it!

I use mine almost every day. In-laws got it for us from their country, it's beautiful and unique for this country.

I've broken a few pieces here and there, but that's life! I'd rather enjoy it than keep it on a shelf.

Everyday. We figured why have it sit in a box to collect dust. We mix it in with our less nice stuff.

We picked out china that we could use every day, and we do. Even picked up extra pieces for cheap on Craigslist!

We never got any. I would love to have some though.

I use my Villeroy and Boch daily though. No chips!
