I'm a sentimental person and will cry over a movie or even a commercial, but I haven't cried at any graduations or college move-in days. Sure, you miss your kids when they move out of the house, but there are plenty of ways to be in touch -- texting, Skype, Facetime, etc., and it's so exciting to see them stepping out into the world and becoming the wonderful people you've been waiting to see for 20 years. It's like watching a butterfly emerge from the cocoon or a baby bird fly. What a privilege and joy to witness this.
I have a college student and a college graduate and agree, although I did tear up a tiny bit dropping the youngest off at college. No tears at any graduations. Being an empty nester rocks. At this point the kids are still home a ton (all summer, several weeks in December/January, fall break, etc) but we are able to do so much fun stuff now that we couldn't do when every weekend was a school or sports event. Weekends away, day trips, etc.
