Just wait until the baby is born op. You are overthinking this and also underthinking how truly weird it is to keep family out of the room bc of your decorations.

We did it above her crib but only after she was born and home (in case we suddenly decided she didn't look like the name we'd chosen). We also live in California where putting anything on the wall around the crib is potentially dangerous (earthquakes) and the name stencil fills a lot of wall space.

My DD has her name on the wall. It was a gift, not my choice, but I didn't care. DD LOVES it. She loves that now, at 20 months, she can "read" her name on the wall.
There's absolutely zero character stuff in our house.

With my first we changed our mind about the name in the hospital, and with the second it took us two days after he was born to pick between our top two. I need to meet them before I can name them.

I did. White wooden letters, all in lowercase, over crib against a coral wall. If you like it, go for it!
