I dislike them because we like to celebrate with as many of dd's friends as possible but then we end up with pile of unwanted trinkets that it would be rude to leave behind but that we then need to either keep as clutter or find a way to pass along.
If you really want to give a party favor, I'm with those who are suggesting clutter-free ideas like gift cards for an ice cream, balloon from the party decor, or something like that.
(So I also disagree with those suggesting stuffed animals, cookies, toys, etc. as alternatives.)
