Yep, I had to do this, too. Apparently there was a case where a bat was found in the room of a sleeping girl. She died of rabies some time later. Apparently bat bites are so light that you could be bitten while you're asleep and not wake up. I believe the recommendation is also to get rabies shots if you're drunk and there's a bat in the room with you.
