Have to say that this one is quite attractive pp!
Usually IMO much ess so and that roof coming all the way down to the first floor (and lots of times it's mossy and discolored).
OP -- a deal breaker for my DH.

Extetior is cute. It's the top floor/attic uneven ceilings and weird spaces created by the slanted roof and windows that create the problem for me. Plus if not done properly, it gets hot in the summer (Most I've seen finished the attic to use as bedrooms).

Gosh, I really like them a lot and think they have a lot of character, and are "different" from the cookie-cutter colonials you get everywhere around here. Had no idea people would NOT like one!
(And no, I don't have one. We live in a TH. But I would be happy to buy one b/c I think they are adorable.)

The exterior is literally the last thing I care about on a home. I am in the 600K range so compromises have to be made and I don't live in front of my home, I live in it, so to me that's rarely going to be a deal breaker.

I live in a Dutch Colonial. Our house is actually on the market so maybe OP is talking about mine! I actually love the style. It has a lot of charm. But the funny part is we had a contractor over recently and he was saying that, like a PP mentioned, it's not actually a true dutch colonial. It's a traditional colonial meant to look like a dutch colonial. The contractor said it could easily be turned into a "traditional" colonial without much cost. Who knew!
I'm the 1st pp that removed the "dutch". Our house was built in 1941 so evidently this has been a style for quite awhile.

I think some PPs are confused by the classical Dutch colonial and the neo-classical 1960s crappy remake version (tons in the McLean area). The crappy neo-classical styles are those cedar shake shingle roofed, square houses with two-angled roofs ... or the vinyl-sided barn look from one of the PPs pics. Those are all pretty hideous. The classic style - often with stone - is much more attractive.

I've always called them Barn Styles. LOL! Didn't know they were considered Dutch Colonials.
I don't like them that much but as it's become more and more apparent that I can't afford a SFH around here, I'm starting to realize that if that was my only option, I would certainly take it. Some look nicer than others, though, so it'd have to be well kept up.
My husband absolutely hates them though...
