But I don't seem to have the same deal breakers that I see a lot of people on this Board mention. Although, my budget was more like $700-750 so I assumed there would be tradeoffs.

We didn't love the "dutch" but we were ok with it. 5years after we bought the house we decided to replace the metal siding on the house, new windows and a new roof. As we removed the siding we discovered that the "dutch" roof line was all an add on to a regular colonial. We were able to remove that part and we now have a colonial!!
I live in a Dutch Colonial. Our house is actually on the market so maybe OP is talking about mine! I actually love the style. It has a lot of charm. But the funny part is we had a contractor over recently and he was saying that, like a PP mentioned, it's not actually a true dutch colonial. It's a traditional colonial meant to look like a dutch colonial. The contractor said it could easily be turned into a "traditional" colonial without much cost. Who knew!
