Yes, I understand its more for grandparents taking care of the student. I really just wanted to know what my options were, if any. Obviously his education is more important than his afterschool, but he's had quite a bit of upheaval and the move was not one we had been planning to make. We really wanted to stay in our school boundary but couldn't find anything quickly at a price we could afford. To make things worse, my kid's father and I are divorced and DC visits him out of state every weekend, so its just so much back and forth, here and there for DC. This is why maintaining as much consistency as possible is so important to me. Its not a matter of trying to game the system or get preferential treatment, Im really just trying to do what I think is best.

PP (but not the last post) here- the FCPS statement on exceptions to allow placement in a different school due to childcare I believe is more for situations such as: my parents take care of my child(ren) while I work, and this is how I can work type of situation.

If it were me, I'd look into the quality of the LLIV at the school. If if it looks good, then problem solved. If not, I would definitely choose the center option. Surely there is another karate after school program he can go to, and perhaps there are some summer programs you could involve him in there so that he would be acclimated to the new karate place before school starts. He spends more time in school, than the after school program, so that should take priority in my opinion.

I teach at an elementary in FCPS, and happen to run bus/daycare van duty. Unless you are lucky that the center bus would arrive right at dismissal of the base, there is virtually no chance this would be allowed. Even our SACC students have to be escorted from the bus by SACC personnel.

I thought that was based on base school though. I believe that most of the center students would not be going to the same MS/HS as the other center. I guess it may just be more complicated than it is worth. I've heard that centers will bus back and forth to base schools for SACC, do you think they would bus to the new base school for pick up from his Karate?
Highly doubtful. Probably best to check with the school principal.
I doubt the schedule would work perfectly so that the karate bus is waiting for your child at the base school (especially with different start/end times-unpredictable travel times). I can't imagine a principal or school system wanting that exposure. Your best bet is to talk to your karate school rather than the ES.

Sounds like the convenience/familiarity of after school daycare is a priority over the new center and local school AAP - am not sure why you moved out of boundary if that's the case. If the old center could accept him (space, teachers, etc) you would be responsible for getting DC to school every - the old center principal there could guide you on if that was even an option.
