I'm not sure if she's doing it to keep him though. They both want children; he is hesitant about being a part of a ceremony.

I thought getting pregnant made men run the other way these days.

Ethically, it's not much worse than deliberately sabotaging your birth control to get pregnant in order to keep a man who doesn't want to get married. A person who could do one is capable of doing the other. I have no idea of the relative or absolute frequency of either act.

If you need to keep a man, he's probably someone you shouldn't really want to keep.

Also, it's selfish as all hell to put a baby in the middle of a situation like that.

Babies and children deserve a loving home. They're not band-aids for relationships in a crisis.

It makes me go berserk when women do that kind of things. It's so petty.

Risky maneuver in this day and age. Back in the day, women could be at least reasonably assured that pregnancy meant he'd marry them, but they had no guarantees of how happy that marriage would be. These days, there's a lot less stigma about single parenthood, and a woman could wind up without the marriage, happy or otherwise. If she's OK with that, fine, but if that's the goal of the pregnancy, she might be in for a very rude awakening.

I know a woman who did to keep her husband she was separated from. He was cheating all of the time. She wanted him to move back home and thought a baby would fix their marriage. He moved back home but the cheating didn't stop. Now she's sticks at home with a screaming baby and a husband who doesn't like her.

My mother had a third child when I was 14 and my brother, 12. I think she wanted to hang on to Dad, who was straying, plus she couldn't figure out what else to do with herself as we older kids grew up.

My brother, #3, was an alcoholic before he finished HS - or would have finished HS, never did. He committed suicide in his 40's.

Men also purposely impregnate Gfs and wives to keep them from leaving.

My Mom did it and trapped my Catholic Dad (who was okay with pre-marital sex, but not abortion).

Miserable marriage. Dad would passive-agressively act out all the time. My poor Mom (who brought this on herself) was trying to have a marriage that involved teamwork and a partnership. My Dad wanted someone who would keep the house clean and cook his dinner.

They are still married and I think my Dad FINALLY (after 40 years) realized he is a part of a team and is working with her instead of against her. But he is also a functional alcoholic and just numbs himself too...

Really messed me up when it came to relationships. Took years and years of therapy and self-help books to undo the damage.

THEY are having unprotected sex. BOTH of them. Meaning, HE is just as responsible. Maybe their relationship, sex life and reproductive choices are none of your business.

Well, that's right. Her problem has been that he has always been so excited to have children and talks about them and even initiated a no condom session all on his own. She then freaked out saying there's gonna be no baby without a ring. And now she's loosened up saying, she can do a quicky ceremony after getting knocked up.

So...he really wants children, he just doesn't want a wedding.

Unless she's willing to abort if she gets pregnant and he refuses to marry her, this isn't gonna end well for her.

Well, who says he won't come around for a quicky ceremony?

He may. But if he doesn't, she's certainly over a barrel.

Or some men can't shake their ego and need a reason to stay
